I was born in Santhebennur, Davangere district, Karnataka state, INDIA in 1946. I suffered from allergic runny nose from my childhood, and the intensity of suffering from runny nose was most during common cold. I used to suffer not just from runny nose, but also from its many painful secondary complications like: sore throat, otitis, tonsillitis, nasal blockages, etc. This had affected my educational and professional performance considerably. I had to give up my job (Assistant Spinning Master) in a textile mill in Dec 1987, as the sufferings from the torturous runny nose caused by nasal allergy & common cold, and the associated secondary complications was unbearable. I suffered most from runny nose during that textile job of seventeen years (I had to continue in the job due to financial reasons). After leaving the textile job also, I continued to suffer from runny nose. I thought, I must do something on my own to come out of this problem. Post Nasal Drip Blocking Device is the result of my first breakthrough. This device prevents development of sore throat and few other secondary complications as explained in one of the previous web pages. Subsequently, breakthrough treatments namely: Cold Water Treatment (CWT) & Cold Water Plus Treatment (CWPT) were designed. CWT gives 100% relief from nasal allergy & milder common colds and 90% relief from runny nose due to severe common cold. CWPT provides relief from excessive sneezes. A Brief History Of Breakthroughs! The final products CWT & CWPT, were not designed straight away, but they were evolved: there are other breakthroughs which helped to shape these products. In the case of CWT, Post Nasal Drip Blocking Device helped me to select the right location for CWT, Ice Treatment gave me the important clue about what can stop or reduce the intensity of hyper nasal secretions. Thus, CWT is shaped/evolved out of the clues obtained from the products of the earlier breakthroughs.
In the case of CWPT, several experiments were conducted over a period of about 5 years to select the tool CAPSAICIN to reduce/cure excessive sneezing problem. In the following paragraphs, you will come across the details of these breakthrough treatments.
The torturous situation leads to post nasal drip blocking device: Once again, I came under the attack of a severe common cold during the winter of 1991-92, the year of gulf war. One particular night, the cough was so severe, which caused chest pain and nausea, and I vomited few times.
My wife and son, watching this, had the greatest fun of their life! I went nearby a mirror to have a look at those emerging strings from the nostrils, I noticed three special points.
I tried this on my son later, when he started suffering from common cold and cough and the result was similar. Please read about how the sore throat develops in the following paragraphs. Inflammatory Secretions Cause Sore Throat! Inflammatory secretions generate in APNC area due to viral infection during common cold. These secretions get mixed up with mucus secretions and move towards throat due to rhythmic beating by cilia present in the nasal passages. These inflammatory secretions cause sore throat, which can lead to severe coughing. Plastic tubes effectively stop the flow of the inflammatory secretions towards throat and prevent the development of sore throat. In fact, this device reverses the flow of these secretions and make them flow towards the openings of nasal cavities and out of the nose. Reversal of mucus and prevention of sore throat!: When a plastic tube is placed in a nasal cavity, the mucus containing inflammatory secretions sticks to the outer surface of the device. The mucus will not go further upwards in the direction of throat even due to the sucking action of inspiration and due to the beating and pushing action of the cilia. Mucus will start moving towards outside openings of nasal cavities and come out of the nose.This reversal of mucus flow is due to:
As the secretions entering throat can be stopped by the use of plastic tubes, sore throat will not develop. This can also stop remote stimulation of mucus secretions through the nerves present in the throat and leads to lesser secretion of mucus in APNC area and facilitates clear breathing. Vanishing of headaches: Once the flow of mucus is inhibited by the plastic tubes, the sensory areas in the nasal passages responsible for triggering the headaches will not get the supply of mucus containing irritating/inflammatory secretions. Whatever, irritants present in the mucus adhering to those areas responsible for triggering headaches will get cleared up by the ciliary action in about 30 minutes, that is why headaches vanish after the insertion of paper devices. Clear breathing: The reason for this is: that the paper device keeps open some space between the lateral and septal walls in nasal cavity by pushing the lower turbinate towards lateral wall. Further improvements: During the following years, I felt, those hard plastic tubes may injure mucus membranes. So, I started using the softer tubes made out of the long tube which is used to connect the glucose bottle to the patients in hospitals. These tubes were comparatively comfortable as they were softer, but they were coming out of nose due to their smooth surface and the slipperiness caused by mucus. So, I thought of using paper tubes made by rolling a rectangular piece of paper with about 3 spiral turns. Next when I thought, some bigger impurities in the air may enter the throat via lumen of the paper tubes, I made the lower end narrower by pressing it. Even with this narrowing of lower end, the breathing was clear. The reason for this is: that the paper tube keeps open some space between the lateral and septal walls in nasal cavity by pushing the lower turbinate towards lateral wall. This encouraged me to fold some length at the bottom of the paper tube in order to give it a little grip inside the nasal cavity as well as serving the purpose of blocking the impurities of the air. Even this also started serving the dual purpose of clear breathing and inhibiting of mucus flow towards throat. These paper devices which protected me from the secondary complications of runny nose provided me the following important clues:-
These four ideas, I got from these paper devices helped me to proceed firmly with the ICE TREATMENT, and COLD WATER TREATMENT later on.
After the first breakthrough: POST NASAL DRIP BLOCKING DEVICE, in the last quarter of 1997, I just wanted to verify, whether the cold temperature is the reason behind the development of common colds. So, I decided to put ice into my nasal cavities. The day, when I was preparing to begin this experiment, my wife asked me, what was the new experiment. I told about the idea of putting ice into nasal cavities to see whether it causes viral cold. After hearing this, my wife was too embarrassed! Then after few minutes, she recovered and told me, she will call an ambulance to handle the aftermath. I told her to keep quiet! I took two pieces of ice and inserted one in each nasal cavity for about 15 seconds. I felt the cooling effect of ice accompanied by some sort of headache during this first attempt (the subsequent ice treatments never gave any headaches). Nothing more than that happened, I think this disappointed my wife a bit (as she was anticipating some unusual problems to crop up!). I continued with my experiment of putting ice into my nose twice or thrice every day for about another 15 days and was curiously waiting for the arrival of viral cold. I went on still further for few days with this ice treatment, I did not get the common cold, but my wife got it! After 1 or 2 days my son (who was 15 years old that time), started suffering from common cold. This was very unusual in our home because the usual thing was, I was the first one to get common cold all these years. My wife and son were the strongest ones against common colds. They used to suffer very less number of common colds per year. This unusual event prompted me to investigate about the properties of ice responsible for the prevention/reduction of severity of common cold. It is known from long time, inflammation of mucus membranes is a common factor with all those who suffer from common colds. So, when I was applying ice, it was actually, preventing/reducing the inflammation. During the course of my experiments, as I was applying ice regularly, and the inflammation which gradually develops could not develop or development was minimal and hence the prevention/reduction of severity of common cold. ICE TREATMENT gave me the clue that prevention of inflammation at APNC area prevents hyper nasal secretions. Regular Cold Water Treatment (CWT) Provides 100% Relief From Nasal Allergy & Milder Common Colds And 90% Relief From Runny Nose Due To Severe Common cold. I used Ice Treatment for about 3 years, to prevent/reduce the severity of runny nose due to nasal allergy/common cold. 10.Genesis Of the
Breakthroughs!
The
acute breathlessness caused by nasal blockage due to hyper nasal
secretions was simply unbearable. I thought, I should do something first
to breathe properly. To do that, I thought of creating a tunnel within
the collected mucus in the nasal cavities by inserting a tube in each
nasal cavity. I went to a nearby cold drink shop
and bought a chilled bottle of soft drink. I sipped that cold drink with
a plastic tube even against the prevailing strong opinion, that one
should not drink the cold drinks while suffering from sore throat. I was
surprised by the soothing effect I felt in my throat while sipping that
cold drink. I took few extra plastic tubes from the shop keeper and
returned home. At home, I prepared two tubes measuring about 6.5 cms
each as shown in the adjacent sketch. I inserted one tube in each nasal
cavity even while coughing severely. After inserting the tubes in the
nasal cavities, mucus in the form of strings started flowing out of the
nose through the nostrils.
Two
mucus strings, (one from each of the nasal cavity as shown in the
adjacent sketch) stretched down to about 30 cms and joined later to form
V- shape, afterwards a short single mucus string of about 5 cms was
formed from the junction, before breaking due to its own weight. After
the break of mucus strings, again the fresh two strings started coming
out of the nostrils and the repetition of V-shape formation and the so
on and on repetitions.
